A longtime Five Points restaurant is using a new business model.

The Mossfire Grill at 1573 Margaret St. has turned over its kitchen in the mornings to From Butter with Love Bakery.

The two remain separate businesses while making use of the same space.

“I have to pay for the building anyhow,” said Mossfire owner Ben Franco, who bought the restaurant in November 2022.

Drew and Scooter Cavins opened the restaurant in 1998. It was originally called The Tumbleweed Grill but soon changed its name because there was another restaurant with that name.

John and Leah Ogle have been selling cheesecakes prepared in a cafeteria kitchen. They changed their business plan after being approached by Franco.

“We are just one week in and we are adjusting to this prime location,” John Ogle said.

“We were thinking of becoming a wholesale bakery and then this opportunity came up and we needed to shift to a full service set up.”

The bakery is open from 6 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday.

Mossfire is open 4-10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 2-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Mossfire will sell the baked goods throughout the hours of operation.

Franco decided to stop serving lunch at Mossfire about three weeks ago.

Franco, who still works in the corporate world selling lighting, said lunchtime dining has changed.

“No one goes for a sit-down lunch anymore,” he said.

The Ogles are starting small, with morning coffee, bagels, sweet rolls and other pastries. Sourdough bread is made twice a week. As they grow into the new business they plan to add more baked goods, including croissants.

One of her specialty dessert items is an Irish Cream and Coffee Brie cheesecake.
