Less than a month after it launched flights to New Haven, Connecticut, Avelo Airlines is adding another nonstop route from Jacksonville International Airport.
Starting May 23, Avelo will begin nonstop service to Wilmington Airport in New Castle, Delaware. The airport is about 40 miles southwest of Philadelphia in the Delaware Valley.
Flights on the low-cost airline will be twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
Fares start at $59, according AveloAir.com. It departs at 10 a.m. and arrives at 12:01 p.m. The flight from Wilmington to Jacksonville on May 26 leaves at 7 a.m. and arrives at 9:15 a.m.
“We are proud to announce another nonstop route at JAX with service to the Philadelphia region,” Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said in a news release.
“This new route continues to highlight Avelo’s convenient, affordable and industry-leading reliability. We also look forward to making Northeast Florida’s famous beaches, as well as its abundance of outdoor activities and historic culture, easier than ever for Avelo travelers to enjoy.”
Avelo communications manager Courtney Goff said Feb. 14 the airline is actively exploring future flight options. She declined to comment on where, but said there are “several” options and flight destinations would likely be in the Northeast.
Avelo has six bases: Connecticut’s Tweed New Haven Airport; Hollywood Burbank Airport in Los Angeles; Wilmington Airport; Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina; Sonoma County (California) Airport; and Lakeland International Airport.
“It’s all about making sure the timing is right and having all of our airplanes equipped and ready to go for it,” she said.
Avelo is the 10th carrier at Jacksonville International Airport.
In Florida, Avelo also serves Daytona Beach; Destin/Fort Walton Beach; Fort Lauderdale; Fort Myers; Orlando; Sarasota; and West Palm Beach.
According to its website, it serves 50 destinations across the United States, Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
