Aldi will open its newest store – and the first area renovated Southeastern Grocers supermarket it bought – at 9 a.m. March 20 at 2261 Edgewood Ave. W. in Northwest Jacksonville.

The discount store will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Aldi converted a former Harveys Supermarket, which is a sister brand to Winn-Dixie.

Aldi has taken steps to convert at least three Winn-Dixies in Northeast Florida in Brierwood, Fort Caroline and in Fleming Island in Clay County.

A March 6 news release said that the Northwest Jacksonville store will offer fresh, organic produce delivered daily, a selection of cheese, beer and food that includes gluten-free and plant-based, as well as curbside pickup and grocery delivery options.

The first 100 customers will receive a gift bag of Aldi Fan Favorites products and a gift card as part of the Aldi  Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program.

Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card.

Germany-based Aldi carries a streamlined selection of brands, most of them exclusive to the store.

“At our new Jacksonville ALDI store, shoppers will find that every decision we make, from our product selection to store layout, is to provide our customers with the best products at the lowest possible prices of any national grocer,” said Matt Thon, Aldi regional vice president, in the news release.

“Our customers can save up to 36% on an average household’s shopping list. As shoppers look for better ways to stretch their dollar, ALDI is providing Jacksonville with easier access to quality groceries at affordable prices.”

This latest store opening brings Aldi a step closer to achieving its goal of opening 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028, it said.

Aldi’s exclusive brands make up 90% of the items on its shelves.

It also offers its aisles of weekly offerings of limited-time “Aldi Finds” that include seasonal food, home goods and more.

Aldi U.S. is based in Batavia, Illinois.

German grocer Aldi bought Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., with about 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, as of March 7, 2024.

Less than a year later, a private investment group led by former Southeastern Grocers CEO and President Anthony Hucker announced Feb. 7, 2025, that it bought 170 of those stores as well as the Winn-Dixie liquor store business.

Aldi intends to complete its previously stated conversion plans with a total of about 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores, which is expected to conclude in 2027.

The February news release said Southeastern Grocers will continue to operate the remaining stores identified for conversion to Aldi until they are closed for the renovation.

Aldi stores are about half the size of the Southeastern Grocers supermarkets that are being converted, which means landlords will have more space available for lease.

Aldi has about 2,400 U.S. stores and said the Southeastern Grocers acquisition was part of a plan to add 800 stores nationwide by 2028 through new openings and store conversions.

Aldi has at least 13 stores in Northeast Florida, comprising eight in Jacksonville and five in Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties.

The city issued a permit Oct. 9, 2024, for the conversion of the Harveys Supermarket in Edgewood Square in Northwest Jacksonville into an Aldi store at a project cost of $810,000.

T.D. Farrell Construction Inc. of Alpharetta, Georgia, was the contractor for the 21,839-square-foot project.

Harveys operated in a 46,189-square-foot space.
