Part II: Northeast Florida health care development update

From emergency rooms and medical offices to multiphase, multimillion-dollar expansion projects, here is a roundup of recently opened facilities and those under construction.

New health care facilities are in development all over Northeast Florida. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being invested in emergency rooms, medical offices and other facilities. Here’s a look at some of those projects in the pipeline or recently opened. You can see Part I here.

Baptist Health said its plans to open Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines in spring 2026.

Baptist Medical Center plans to build a two-story, 52,000-square-foot medical office building, and a future building on a 10.52-acre site in Seven Pines off Kernan and Butler boulevards.

Baptist outpatient clinic in Mandarin Landing

Baptist Health opened Baptist Primary Care Mandarin North in Mandarin Landing at the former Office Depot at 10601 San Jose Blvd. The outpatient clinic has patient exam rooms, a lab, offices and more services in the 24,658-square-foot space.

The medical facilities include but are not limited to medical offices, ambulatory surgery center, supplemental, multi-specialty clinic or imaging center. Opening date is spring 2026.

Baptist expanding Southbank presence

Baptist Medical Center intends to expand its emergency department with a 110,000-square foot addition and renovation of its existing emergency services building.

The planned addition to the Baptist Medical Center Emergency Department will be four stories plus a 20-foot utility penthouse, for a total of 76 feet in height.

The building is planned on a 17-acre parcel containing eight multistory buildings on the Baptist campus at 800 Prudential Drive.

Baptist Health to build in Silverleaf

Baptist Health is developing a medical campus in the Silverleaf community of St. Johns County.

The proposed 118,000-square-foot project includes a freestanding 24/7 Baptist/Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center, office space, a maintenance building and a helipad for air ambulance services.

The campus is expected to open in early 2026.

Baptist opens ER in Yulee

Baptist Health opened its Baptist Emergency and Imaging Center at Nassau Crossing in Yulee in November.

The $38 million, 23,879-square-foot emergency room and imaging center is near Wildlight at 462600 Florida 200. There are 16 rooms for adult and pediatric patients.

Baptist expands maternity care

Baptist Health is expanding the Chartrand Frisch Family Birth & Newborn Center at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville in two phases. The first was completed in July. It includes four dedicated maternity exam rooms for evaluation and observations. 

Phase two has 12 additional labor and delivery rooms to accommodate high-risk pregnancies. It is set for a September 2025 completion.

Baptist/Wolfson ER opened in June

Baptist & Wolfson St. Augustine Emergency Room and Imaging Center opened in June. 

The 23,879-square-foot freestanding facility is at 461 Outlet Mall Blvd., off Interstate 95. It houses the Baptist Emergency Center for adults and the Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center for patients under 18.

Nutex building ER and micro-hospital

Houston-based Nutex Health is building an ER and micro-hospital facility at northeast Beach and Kernan boulevards at a project cost of almost $21 million.

The eight-bed, 28,303-square-foot Nutex ER & Hospital is planned on 7.85 acres at 12645 Beach Blvd.

Ascension St. Vincent’s building ER facility

Ascension St. Vincent’s is building a stand-alone emergency room at the corner of Kernan and Beach boulevards.

It is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025. The 13,559-square-foot facility will employ 40 and is expected to serve 16,000 patients annually.

Services will include a triage area, a critical care room, nine treatment spaces and advanced CT and X-ray technology.

Sanitas opening medical centers

Florida Blue opened two Sanitas Medical Centers in Jacksonville – Regency Park at 9400 Atlantic Blvd. and Windy Hill at 11160 Beach Blvd.

A third will open in March at 8102 Blanding Blvd. Until it opens there is a temporary location at 1605 Kingsley Ave. in Orange Park.

The medical care centers serve Florida Blue customers, original Medicare and self-paying patients ages 50 and older.

AdventHealth plans St. Johns ER 

AdventHealth Palm Coast bought two vacant commercial lots in St. Johns County in August for $5.7 million.

Advent Health purchased land at the south end of World Commerce Center in St. Johns County.

The lots are a combined 11.04 acres on north Florida 207 south of San Juan Road in St. Augustine. They are about 1.6 miles northeast of Interstate 95.

Plans are for a 12-bed emergency department to be opened in 2026.

AdventHealth, based in Altamonte Springs, is a national faith-based health care company with more than 50 hospitals in about a dozen states.

AdventHealth buys land in World Commerce Center, plans hospital 

AdventHealth purchased three properties in World Commerce Center in St. Augustine with plans to develop an 88-bed hospital and 80,000 square feet of medical office space, according to a letter from St. Johns County Growth Management.  

AdventHealth is planning a hospital on Parcel M in World Commerce Center, according to a letter from a St. Johns County official. It is near where a Walmart Supercenter is planned in Parcel L.

AdventHealth bought land in Parcel M, a 21.5-acre site north of Florida 16 along International Golf Parkway where a Walmart Supercenter along with several development outparcels are planned across from Tocoi Creek High School. 

The site is 2.3 miles southwest of retailers Buc-ee’s, Costco and Bass Pro Shops.
