The owner of Underwood’s Jewelers bought the building that is home to its retail store in San Marco Square on June 10 for $4.865 million.
The store is at 2044 San Marco Blvd. next to Theatre Jacksonville.
Bromberg and Co. of Birmingham, Alabama, bought the building through AMO Corp. of Alabama Inc.
The seller was Kelly Burnett of Atlantic Beach through KEK of San Marco LLC.
AMO then took out a $3.7 million mortgage from ServicFirst Bank of Birmingham, Alabama.
The 9,260-square-foot building, constructed in 1955, is on 0.34 acre.
The building also is home to the Sherwin-Williams Paint Store at 2058 San Marco Blvd.
In 1928, Herbert F. Underwood opened the first Underwood Jewelers in Palatka. A second store opened in Jacksonville in 1940. The Palatka location was sold soon after and the business was consolidated in Downtown Jacksonville. Underwood’s opened its first branch location in San Marco in 1953.
It also has locations in Avondale and Ponte Vedra Beach. It sells diamonds, jewelry, watches and giftware.
Bromberg and Co. bought Underwood’s in 1974. Clayton Bromberg is chairman of the company and is the registered agent of AMO Corp. of Alabama Inc.
The building last sold for $275,000 in November 1982.
