The first building of a planned Baptist Health medical campus is permitted for construction in the St. Johns County Silverleaf community.
The county issued a building permit Jan. 14. The project cost for the 59,000-square-foot building is about $16.8 million.
The county’s Development Review Committee reviewed the project Aug. 28.
Project plans include a freestanding 24/7 Baptist/Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center and a maintenance building. A helipad for air ambulance services and future expansions are part of the plans submitted on July 19.
The campus is expected to open in early 2026.
The medical campus is east of St. Johns Parkway at Silverleaf Parkway, south of County Road 210. It is about 3 miles north of International Golf Parkway and Tocoi Creek High School.
According to the site plan, the emergency room will be 53,400 square feet and the maintenance building 6,700 square feet. The plan includes 552 parking spaces.
Baptist Health Properties Inc. owns the land. It bought the 33.6-acre site in 2020 from White’s Ford Timber through Jacksonville-based Hutson Companies for $11.5 million.
Jacksonville-based England-Thims & Miller Inc. is the engineer.
“The primary care offices will provide family medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine services. Baptist Health is evaluating other specialty services based on the community’s health care needs,” a Baptist spokesperson said in July. “The campus, featuring a patient-centered and environmentally friendly design, is planned to serve the needs of the growing community with space for two more health care buildings in the future.
“Baptist Health is committed to improving the health and wellness of the communities we serve. We look forward to bringing our high-quality and compassionate care to Silverleaf and western St. Johns County.”
