Fifth Third Bank is adding a fourth St. Johns County branch.
The county issued a building permit Jan. 7 for the bank to expand in the county’s Murabella master-planned community.
Site plans show a 1,900-square-foot building with a drive-thru and 12 parking spaces at 144 Registry Blvd., about 2 miles west of World Commerce Center in the Shoppes at Tocoi Creek.
The project cost is about $2.8 million.
A separate permit for a drive-thru ATM with a canopy was issued at a project cost of $30,000.
Prosser | Prime AE is the civil engineer. BDG Architects is the architect. Both are based in Jacksonville.
The other Fifth Third branches in the county are at 180 Bartram Market Drive, 775 County Road 210 W and 500 Florida A1A N. There are 14 total in Northeast Florida.
According to 53.com, the bank operates in 11 states with 1,087 full-service locations. In addition to the 14 in Florida, the bank operates branches in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
It reported assets of $214 billion in its 2024 third-quarter report.
Fifth Third was founded as Bank of the Ohio Valley in Cincinnati in 1858. In 1871 the Bank of the Ohio Valley was purchased by the Third National Bank.
Third National Bank and the Fifth National Bank later merged and eventually the organization became known as “Fifth Third Bank.”
