A second Shake Shack is identified for Jacksonville, with the New York City-based hamburger chain shown on a South Beach Regional site plan in Jacksonville Beach.
Shake Shack Inc. calls itself a “modern day ‘roadside’ burger stand.”
Regency Centers Corp., which owns South Beach Regional, shows Shake Shack in Space 20, a 3,200-square-foot unit. The brochure is shown as updated Jan. 8, 2025.
The restaurant address is 3956 S. Third St., in an endcap space that appears to have previously been leased to South Beach Cleaners.
The city of Jacksonville Beach is reviewing an alterations permit for Shake Shack in the space. The $100,000 project is in development review for contractor Ladson Construction Co. LLC.
Jacksonville Beach has approved a permit for Ladson Construction to build a covered patio addition, make storefront improvements and combine suites, which appear to be No. 19 and 20, at a project cost of $465,000.
Huey Magoo’s, a chicken tenders chain, is in Space 21, in the endcap across a driveway that cuts through that part of the shopping center.
The 305,124-square-foot shopping center, at 2740-4194 S. Third St., is anchored by The Home Depot, Nordstrom Rack, Ross Dress For Less, T.J. Maxx and Trader Joe’s.
Regency Centers Senior Communications Manager Eric Davidson said Jan. 8 that there is momentum at South Beach Regional.
“With Nordstrom Rack, J.Crew Factory, and Bath & Body Works opening last May, we’ve added Curations (already open) and have TJ Maxx, Shake Shack, and Ten Salon lined up for 2025, but we don’t have specific opening dates yet,” he said.
Davidson said Regency Centers has completed a façade renovation on the Nordstrom Rack side and is wrapping up updates from Shake Shack to T.J. Maxx this month.
“Across the board, we’re upgrading our merchandising to keep the center vibrant and inviting,” he said.
The Shake Shack site shows there are 24 locations in Florida, including several in airports and mall food courts.
Shake Shack opened its first area restaurant Sept. 18, 2024, in St. Johns Town Center, replacing M Shack at 10281 Midtown Parkway, Unit 101.
The St. Johns Town Center Shake Shack was the first in Jacksonville and the 22nd in Florida.
The Jacksonville restaurant operates 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Shake Shack Jacksonville No. 1492, as it was called on the permit, is 4,258 square feet comprising 3,136 square feet of inside space and 1,122 square feet of patio space.
Plans showed 117 seats, comprising 87 inside and 30 outside.
Shake Shack says it serves “elevated versions” of made-to-order Angus beef burgers, crispy chicken, hand-spun milkshakes, housemade lemonades and more.
“With its fresh and simple, high-quality food at a great value, Shake Shack is a fun and lively community-gathering place with widespread appeal,” the company says on its website.
Shake Shack Inc.’s third-quarter report filed Oct. 30 with the Securities and Exchange Commission says that since the original Shack opened in 2004 in NYC’s Madison Square Park, the company has expanded to more than 540 Shacks in operation, with more than 350 in 33 U.S. states and the District of Columbia and 200 international locations across London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo, Seoul and more.
