The Talbots women’s clothing store is closing at St. Johns Town Center where the city issued a build-out permit for fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
Inventory at Talbots was consolidated into one half of the store as of Jan. 7. Associates told customers the retailer is closing Jan. 25 and the unsold inventory will be distributed to other area Talbots stores, which remain open.
Talbots has stores at 10311 Big Tree Lane, east of San Jose Boulevard and north of Interstate 295, in Mandarin; in Ponte Vedra Beach at 330 Florida A1A N., Unit 100, in the Shoppes of Ponte Vedra; and in Fernandina Beach at 1408 Sadler Road in Sadler Crossing.
It also has an outlet in the St. Augustine Premium Outlets.
Much but not all of the inventory at the St. Johns Town Center store is marked 50% off. Associates did not know whether further markdowns are expected.
JRM Construction Management Florida LLC of Boca Raton is the contractor for the $185,000 tenant build-out for a 2,786-square-foot project at 4812 River City Drive, Unit 119, for Marc Jacobs.
The Talbots store has been in city review for a split of the 6,269-square-foot store at that address into at least two spaces at an estimated project cost of $250,000. It’s not clear whether Marc Jacobs will take the entire space or part of it, leaving the other part for a separate tenant.
New York City-based Marc Jacobs sells ready-to-wear apparel along with its signature tote bag and other handbags, fragrances, jewelry, shoes, accessories and more.
The St. Johns Town Center layout indicates a focus on handbags and accessories.
The space is in the strip of storefronts anchored by Lilly Pulitzer and Tommy Bahama. The stores are near Nordstrom.
