Expert civil trial lawyer Scott Sheftall is offering his services as a Supreme Court Certified Circuit Court Civil Mediator.

Sheftall Mediation features offices in the Porter House Mansion at 510 N. Julia St. in Jacksonville.

Scott is now available to mediate cases filed or about to be filed anywhere in Florida.

Supreme Court Certified Circuit Court Civil Mediators like Scott have received extensive training to facilitate negotiations and assist adversaries in reaching settlements.

Scott has participated in over a hundred mediations and is well-versed in the procedures and techniques which are most effective in helping parties settle their differences.

The parties to virtually all cases in state and federal court in Florida are required to engage in the mediation process to see if their dispute can be settled before proceeding to trial.

A mediator is not a party to the court dispute, but rather is engaged by the parties and their legal counsel to preside over a confidential mediation settlement conference.

The mediator remains entirely neutral, makes no rulings and makes no findings of fact. Nor does he take a position on which of the parties in the dispute is right or wrong.

Yet, a certified mediator with extensive experience in trial practice can be helpful to the parties and their counsel in evaluating the risks and the benefits of a negotiated settlement versus continuing litigation.

Only the litigants themselves decide whether to settle, or not.

For over 47 years, Scott has tried and settled complex multimillion-dollar cases in state and federal courts over a very broad range of practice areas, including many types of complex business disputes, class actions, antitrust, insurance, property damage, defamation, probate, personal injury, product liability, maritime and admiralty, premises liability, fraud, securities and commodities claims, legal and medical malpractice, and wrongful death, among many others.

In the field of defamation (libel and slander), Scott has handled cases involving media and nonmedia defendants, for public officials, celebrities and sports personalities (public figures), regular persons (private figures) and for many businesses.

Scott Sheftall's special knowledge, skills and professionalism in trial advocacy are denoted by his Board Certification in Civil Trial Law.

Board Certification designates the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of an attorney's competency, experience and ethics. Scott has been Board Certified continuously since 1988.

In 2000, in recognition of his achievements and professionalism, Sheftall was inducted into the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation-only association dedicated to upholding the highest professional standards of civil trial practice.

In 2014, Scott was invited to be a Fellow in the highly selective International Society of Barristers, which taps less than 1% of the top trial lawyers internationally. The Barristers are dedicated to the preservation of trial by jury, the adversary system and an independent judiciary.

Further, Scott has earned the highest rating by Martindale-Hubbell ("AV Preeminent") and he has been peer-reviewed as a Florida "Super Lawyer" every year since 2006.

Mr. Sheftall's statewide reputation is evident by his having been named one of the "Top Attorneys in South Florida" by South Florida Legal Guide, and as one of "Northeast Florida's Top Attorneys."

Now, Scott Sheftall brings all that trial experience to the task of helping adversaries choose to settle their differences through the mediation process. Scott says, "I consider it a high privilege to serve as a Supreme Court Certified Mediator in Florida and I look forward to helping resolve disputes to spare further expense and stress of litigation."

In-person mediations are conducted at Sheftall Mediation in the Porter House Mansion, 510 N. Julia St., or at any other facility in Florida requested by the parties.

Also, virtual mediation conferences using Zoom teleconferencing are convenient and effective.
