Rob Sandlin, president of Florida Rock & Tank Lines, plans to retire May 2 after more than 40 years with the company and 23 years as president.

Jeff Paulsen, Florida Rock’s chief operating officer, will become president and COO of Florida Rock and Tank Lines.

Sandlin served as president and CEO of Patriot Transportation Holding Inc. when it was sold to United Petroleum Transports in December 2023, and continued in his role as president with Florida Rock and Tank Lines after the deal closed, United Petroleum said in a Feb. 27 news release.

“The success we’ve experienced over the course of my career at Patriot and Florida Rock & Tank Lines has been very rewarding and something I am immensely proud of,” Sandlin said in the release. “I will miss the daily challenge of building an organization and helping people reach their career goals. I will also miss the interaction and relationships built over the years with our team and customers.”

United Petroleum President and CEO Matt Herndon, said Sandlin “has helped build a tremendous company at Florida Rock and Tank Lines, and his advocacy for the trucking industry has made a lasting impact.”

United Petroleum and Florida Rock are now among the top 10 tank truck carriers by revenue the release said. Sandlin “was instrumental in closing this deal in 2023, and while his leadership will be missed, he has helped set FRTL up for years of success.”

Florida Rock and Tank Lines transports petroleum, other liquids, and dry bulk commodities.

It operates 19 terminals and numerous truck domicile locations throughout the Southeast. It has one of the most modern tank fleets available in the industry, and comprises more than 300 tractors and 400 trailers, the release said.
