Online retailer Amazon.com intends to renovate its JAX 2 fulfillment center near Jacksonville International Airport at an estimated cost of almost $3.18 million.
Foresight Construction Group Inc. of Gainesville is the contractor for the project at 12900 Pecan Park Road.
The city is reviewing a permit for Foresight to make interior alterations at the 857,470-square-foot building, which comprises a first floor and three mezzanines, which create a total area of about 2.3 million square feet of space.
Amazon intends to renovate about 65,000 square feet of space. It intends to make interior alterations and improvements to the restrooms, break rooms and office spaces.
Amazon.com also has been updating the distribution center site for its Amazon Flex program, which allows people to deliver packages for the internet retailer using their own vehicles.
Amazon.com Services LLC of Seattle is listed as the business owner. Ware Malcomb of Atlanta is the architect.
Amazon.com has 11 facilities in the region and a 12th in review.
The Seattle-based company opened its first two Jacksonville fulfillment centers in 2017.
It opened the Pecan Park Road center in Northwest Jacksonville in September 2017, followed in October 2017 with the 1.1 million-square-foot AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center fulfillment location in West Jacksonville.
Those opened with the support of $26.7 million in city and state incentives for creating 2,700 jobs.
Since then, Amazon.com opened another fulfillment center, two sortation centers, a heavy bulk freight center and several delivery stations.
None of those subsequent facilities received incentives.
