The three remaining Pollo Tropical restaurants in Jacksonville closed over the weekend.
Windows have been covered and signage has been removed.
The Pollo Tropical website says the locations are temporarily closed.
The restaurants are at 4863 Gate Parkway at the Markets at Town Center; 730 Skymarks Drive in River City Marketplace; and 10989 San Jose Blvd.
Pollo Tropical is known for its 24-hour citrus marinated chicken. It also serves a TropiChop Bowl where customers choose the base, protein and toppings. Wraps, soup and salads are on the menu.
It is headquartered in Miami. It has more than 140 locations in Florida, Texas and Alaska and has licenses on five college campuses as well as restaurants in the Caribbean, Central America, South America and Puerto Rico.
The former parent company, Fiesta Restaurant Group of Dallas, was purchased by the New York hedge fund Authentic Restaurant Brands in 2023 for $225 million, according Nation’s Restaurant News.
Authentic Restaurant Brands is part of Garnett Station Partners, which also owns Primanti Bros., PJ Whelihan’s and Mambo Seafood.
In an August 2023 Nation’s Restaurant News article a spokesman for Authentic Restaurant Brands said, “The transaction validates the actions we have taken to position Pollo Tropical in our markets, enhance the guest experience and improve performance across our footprint. With this transaction, Fiesta will be better positioned financially and operationally to advance our mission of providing great food and hospitality to our guests. Garnett Station has a proven track record of successfully identifying and partnering with iconic, regionally focused brands to help accelerate their growth.”
The company has not responded to an email request for comment on the Jacksonville closings.
