Smalls Sliders, a mini-burger chain founded in 2019 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is planning a location in St. Johns County.

It is the first Northeast Florida restaurant for the quick-service concept.

The site, which the company refers to as a “Can,” is off County Road 210 east of Interstate 95 across from the mixed-use development The Fountains at St. Johns.

Site plans under review by the county show an 800-square-foot restaurant with 14 parking spaces, a dual drive-thru and an outdoor dining area with artificial turf. There is no indoor dining.

The menu includes burger sliders with up to two patties with bacon, grilled cheese sandwiches, waffle fries and milkshakes.

Milkshakes are $5.29 for a small, $5.99 for a medium and $8.50 for a large.

A three cheeseburger sliders meal with waffle fries and a soft drink is $10.99.

According to its website, there are 24 stores in nine states, including Florida locations in Ocala and Pensacola. A Panama City location is among 24 sites the chain is opening soon, the website says.

Smalls Sliders is headquartered in Atlanta.

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is among its investors.

“Our founder Brandon Landry has always been a big fan of cheeseburger sliders. Their size. Their flavor. Their ability to let you eat as many as you want,” Smallssliders.com says.

Landry was a walk-on basketball guard at Louisiana State University. He also founded Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in 2003, which has about 80 locations in 12 states, including seven in Florida.

Brees also is a co-owner of Walk-On’s. It was planned for The Pavilion at Durbin Park but has not opened.

The St. Johns County Development Review Committee is scheduled to review Smalls Sliders’ plans March 12.

Brees has been investing in Northeast Florida.

In 2019, he opened a Surge Adventure Park in the Regency Court Shopping Center at 9292 Arlington Expressway.
