Southwest Airlines will begin nonstop service from Jacksonville International Airport to Austin, Texas, starting Oct. 2.
Southwest and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority announced the service Feb. 6.
The flights will be available Sunday through Thursday.
According to the Southwest website, the Oct. 2 flight leaves Jacksonville at 11:55 a.m. and arrives in Austin at 1:35 p.m. The lowest fare is $265. Flights on other days leave at 11:55 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
On Oct. 2, the flight leaves Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 12:50 p.m. and arrives at JIA at 4:15 p.m. The lowest fare is $224. Fights on other days leave at 1:10 p.m., 12:50 p.m. and 3:35 p.m.
Southwest now offers nonstop service from Jacksonville to Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, St. Louis and Nashville, Tenn., according to Flights.com.
Southwest is following Delta Airlines, which announced plans in November to offer nonstop flights from Jacksonville to Austin starting May 7,
Austin is the Texas state capital and home to the University of Texas.

Service from JIA has been expanding.
Two airlines will begin service at JIA this year. Avelo Airlines will launch a nonstop route to New Haven, Connecticut, on Feb. 14.
