The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has recognized St. Johns County’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

“Our office is committed to protecting the public’s trust by ensuring St. Johns County maintains a high level of accessibility and transparency with its finances,” Brandon Patty, St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller, said in a Feb. 3 news release. “This award highlights the dedication of our team as they responsibly manage taxpayer dollars in collaboration with County administration.”

This is the 32nd consecutive year the county comptroller has received the award.

The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the Government Finance Officers Association said.

To maintain eligibility for an upcoming Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting award, the clerk’s office had to submit the 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report to the GFOA and earn the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting during the same fiscal year.

Headquartered in Chicago, GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing practical research, best practices and professional development for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.
