ABC Fine Wine & Spirits can move forward with a Murabella location in St. Johns County.
The county issued a permit Jan. 31 to build a free-standing 10,000-square-foot store at a cost of $2.1 million.
The lot is 2 acres. Site plans show 35 parking spaces.
It is planned at 140 Registry Blvd. off Nine Mile Road, another name for International Golf Parkway, south of Florida 16 and west of Publix Super Market at Shoppes of Murabella.
It owns the land purchased for $1.7 million in 2024 from Orlando-based NK5 St. Augustine LLC.
RD Michaels of Winter Park is the contractor. Its website shows it has completed another ABC in Cocoa Beach. Media 1 of Sanford is creating signage.
According to Abcfws.com, ABC was founded in 1936 as a bar and package store named after its founder.
Jack Holloway’s Friendly Neighborhood Bar was located at North Orange Avenue and Wall Street in downtown Orlando. Prohibition ended in December 1933.
The name was later changed to ABC Liquors to ensure it would be first in the phone book, the site says.
ABC has more than 125 stores from the Florida Panhandle to Miami. There are three in St. Johns County: one at 1790 U.S. 1 in St. Augustine, one at 259 Harper Lane in Saint Johns and one at 175 Village Main St. in Ponte Vedra Beach.
