The Walmart Fruit Cove Neighborhood Market plans to add an on-site electric vehicle charging station.
St. Johns County is reviewing a permit application submitted April 23.
The plan includes four 12-foot-wide charging units, each with two chargers, according to the application.
The 45,054-square-foot store, which opened in 2013, is at 445 Florida 13 just south of Racetrack Road in the Julington Square shopping center.
Alpharetta, Georgia-based Bowman Consulting Group is the project’s civil engineer.
According to Bowman.com, the firm has provided more than $56 million in consulting services for more than 500 Walmart stores nationwide. Its projects include new buildings and parking lots. Bowman typically designs on-site utilities, grading and erosion control, coordinates with adjacent landowners and facilitates city approvals.
The store does not have a gas station. A Gate gas station operates 0.3 miles north of the shopping center.
Walmart has almost 1,300 EV charging stations at 280 locations nationwide, according to energytech.com.
Atlanta-based commercial real estate firm Stafford, through Julington Square One LLC, owns the Walmart store property. It was formerly a Food Lion.
The county’s Development Review Committee is scheduled to discuss the charging station plans at its May 7 meeting.
