UF Health and insurer UnitedHealthcare announced April 23 that they reached a multiyear agreement effective May 5.

The agreement brings UF Health caregivers into the UnitedHealthcare provider network. The agreement affects policyholders in Jacksonville, St. Johns County, Gainesville and Central Florida.

In practice, the agreement will reduce administrative costs, enhance care management and improve efficiency.

“The contract provides UF Health physicians and caregivers acceptable terms and relief from administrative obstacles,” said Marvin Dewar, CEO and chief medical officer of UF Health Physicians, said in a news release.

“We want to protect patients’ access to the expert care they know and trust, now and in the future.”

Those enrolled in the UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored commercial plans and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Florida (Medicaid) will have access to UF Health facilities and physicians starting May 5.

The agreement also restores network access to UF Health Flagler Hospital, facilities and physicians for people enrolled in UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, including Dual Special Needs Plans.

All UF Health hospitals and medical personnel in Florida will continue to be part of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage network.
