Ascension St. Vincent’s broke ground April 2 for its freestanding emergency room at 12705 Beach Blvd. at Kernan and Beach boulevards.

It is expected to open in spring 2026.

More than 40 workers will be assigned to the 10,000-square-foot emergency room.

There will be a triage area, a critical care room, nine treatment spaces and CT and X-ray technology. It is expected more than 16,000 patients will receive care annually at the site.

St. Vincent’s Health System is building an ER on this property at northwest Beach and Kernan boulevards.

“At St. Vincent’s, we want to do everything in our power to ensure every person in every community can receive care during an emergency,” Kevin Rinks, president and CEO of St. Vincent’s Southside, said in a release.

“This new freestanding emergency room reinforces our commitment to our patients that they will have access to quality and compassionate care.”

Over the next five years, the population in that area is expected to increase by nearly 6%, according to hospital projections.

St. Vincent’s bought the almost 5-acre property in March 2020 for $4.5 million from West Kernan Loan Acquisition LLC, whose managing member is Tamaya Property Holdings LLC.

Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside will operate the ER facility. When a patient needs emergency care on the main campus, St. Vincent’s can coordinate transportation and schedule follow-up appointments.

St. Vincent’s has freestanding emergency rooms in Arlington, Westside and Middleburg.
