Florida State College at Jacksonville debuted its new Commercial Vehicle Driving program at the college’s Nassau Center on Sept 12.
The program allows Nassau County residents to obtain appropriate certification to fill the demand for jobs in the commercial vehicle driving field.
“This initiative will not only provide critical training for commercial vehicle drivers in Nassau County but will also directly address the rapidly growing workforce needs in our region. By offering high-quality education and certification opportunities right here in Nassau County, we are meeting the urgent demand for trained drivers and ensuring our community is equipped with programs that offer our students opportunities to train for and step into these high-wage positions,” FSCJ President John Avendano said in a news release.
FSCJ was awarded a $3,181,791 grant as part of the Florida Job Growth Grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, now known as the Florida Department of Commerce and Enterprise Florida, to support expansion of the program.
Coupled with the addition of industry-standard equipment and tools, the expansion allows FSCJ to train nearly 400 students annually and provides financial assistance, support services and job placement assistance.
