Ortega Park, the rebranded Roosevelt Square shopping center near the Avondale and Ortega neighborhoods, is adding two food tenants – Chicken Salad Chick and SoFresh.
The city is reviewing building permit applications for both at the center at 4495 Roosevelt Blvd. in West Jacksonville. The shopping center is east of Roosevelt Boulevard, between Interstate 10 and Jacksonville Naval Air Station.
Both restaurants are in the 300 building – also shown as Building E - that is bisected by the Ortega Alley pedestrian retail feature and anchored by West Marine and Orangetheory Fitness. The Franklin Street commercial real estate group represents the landlord.
For Chicken Salad Chick, Adkins Construction LLC of Jacksonville is the contractor for the proposed $350,000 build-out of 2,650 square feet for a 64-seat restaurant in Units 306-307. The restaurant space is in an end space next to Great Clips.
Jared Bussey Architect of Birmingham, Alabama, is the architect.
Chicken Salad Chick sells, as its name implies, chicken salad as well as other salads, sides, soups, sandwiches, sweets, a children’s menu and more. It also caters.
It has four area locations in St. Johns Town Center; in South Jacksonville at Philips Highway and Bentley Road; in The Pavilion at Durbin Park in Saint Johns; and St. Augustine.
Atlanta- based Chicken Salad Chick franchises and has 275 locations in 19 states.

For SoFresh, RPC General Contractors Inc. of Atlantic Beach is the contractor for the estimated $250,000 build-out of 1,200 square feet of space for a 16-seat fast-casual restaurant in Unit 308, next to Chicken Salad Chick.
Del Vescovo Design Group Architecture & Interior Design of Sarasota is the architect.
SoFresh sells warm and broth bowls; salads; wraps and quesadillas; proteins such as chicken, steak, shrimp, salmon, ahi tuna and tofu; sides; sweets; smoothies; juices; and more. It says it accommodates preferences including vegan, vegetarian, keto, paleo and gluten-free.
Tampa-based SoFresh also franchises. Its lovesofresh.com website shows 20 locations in Florida, including in The Pavilion at Durbin Park.
It also has six more coming soon in Florida, including three in Jacksonville. No locations are listed.
It has two restaurants in Pennsylvania and stores coming soon there and in Maine and North Carolina.
Ortega Park is being transformed into a 750,000-square-foot mixed-use property. Tenants include Publix Super Markets Inc. and Ulta Beauty.
Restaurants - both on outparcels and within the center - include Metro Diner, Panera Bread, First Watch, Moe’s Southwest Grill, LongHorn Steakhouse, Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A.
