Clothing brand J.McLaughlin appears to be opening in Historic Avondale.

The city is reviewing a permit application for the men’s and women’s clothing and accessories retailer to build-out a storefront at 3581 St. Johns Ave. at an estimated job cost of almost $100,000. The price can be adjusted through the review.

AEC Integrated of Jacksonville is the plan review provider for the 2,065-square-foot project. David A. Nice Builders Inc. of Williamsburg, Virginia, is listed as the contractor. JAA Architecture of Jacksonville is the project architect.

Plans show the space is next to the Brick Restaurant.

New York City-based J.McLaughlin has more than 150 locations among 37 states and in Washington, D.C. Among the 28 stores in Florida are two in Ponte Vedra Beach and Fernandina Beach.

The jmclaughlin.com site shows a job opening for a part-time sales associate in Avondale.

According to the site, brothers Kevin and Jay McLaughlin founded J.McLaughlin in 1977 to create an American sportswear brand that offered two key components: “Classic clothing with current relevance and a retail environment that has a neighborhood feel.”

The site describes the fashion as “straightforward, unpretentious, and devoid of the superfluous. Our clothing is rooted in the tradition of sport, work, and play.”

The site says that each store is designed to reflect “the town’s color, character, and architecture.”

“Our company culture helps create a family like atmosphere that focuses on giving back to local communities.”
