Following a name nomination process and voting by students, faculty, staff and the public, Florida State College at Jacksonville announced “Rayzor Ray” as the official name for its mascot Oct. 21.

The manta ray was introduced as the college’s new mascot during the 2024 commencement ceremony May 9, and the costume was introduced Sept. 17, in celebration of World Manta Day.

When the public nomination window closed, students, faculty and staff were invited to vote for their favorite from six finalists, narrowing the list down to the winner, Rayzor.

“The months-long selection, design, naming and unveiling process for our new mascot has generated much excitement, energy and engagement within the College and throughout our community,” FSCJ President John Avendano said in a news release. “We are so appreciative to all who participated in this exciting process and look forward to the momentum Rayzor will continue through public appearances both on and off campus.”
