St. Johns County issued a permit Oct. 8 for Game Over Escape Rooms to build-out at a cost of $300,000.
It will be the sixth location in Florida at the Bartram Pointe shopping center at 175 Ranier Lane, Suite 5. Bartram Pointe is east of the intersection of Race Track Road and Bartram Springs Parkway.
Game Over operates in 28 countries, including Portugal, France, Romania, Germany, Belgium, and Austria, with almost 70 locations.
It is headquartered in Greece and was founded in 2015, according to its website.
According to escapegameover.com, “Since our inception, we have been dedicated to designing and constructing unique and immersive turnkey experiences that transport our guests to other worlds and challenge their skills and wits.”
The goal of the game is to solve a series of riddles and find hidden objects and clues so players can solve the mystery and escape the room in 60 minutes.
Themed rooms include “Order of Assassins,” which replicates the Middle Ages; “Tutankhamun’s Tomb,” set in an Egyptian pyramid; “Jack the Ripper,” based in the 1880s; and “Chernobyl,” which takes place inside a replicated abandoned reactor.
Its website says the number of escapees exceeds six million.
International Management Company LLC, through Bartram Springs Center LLC, owns the land. Atlas Built Construction is the contractor.
