One of two area Sam’s Clubs preparing for $2 million renovations received its city permit Oct. 1 to proceed.
The other remains in review. Each is about 140,000 square feet.
The city issued a permit for contractor FMGI Inc. of Woodstock, Georgia, to renovate the Sam’s Club at 300 Busch Drive in North Jacksonville at a project cost of $2.16 million.
The membership warehouse club was built in 1995 on 17 acres.
The project includes interior and exterior demolition, a new sushi tenant, a new fresh juice area, a new shop-in produce cooler and a new shop-in dairy cooler, a renovated produce prep area, new and renovated cases, a renovated sales area, new refrigeration equipment and more.
In South Jacksonville, the Sam’s Club at 10690 Beach Blvd. is in review for a $2.06 million renovation.
It was built in 1992 on 18 acres.
The project includes interior and exterior demolition, new shop-in combination coolers, a new sushi tenant, new refrigeration equipment, new and renovated equipment cases, a renovated sales area and more.
For both, James A. Lastovica of Rogers, Arkansas, is the architect and CPH LLC of Sanford is the civil engineer.
Sam’s East Inc of Bentonville, Arkansas, owns both properties.
The project manual says Sam’s will continue to operate during the project.
The third area Sam’s Club at 6373 Youngerman Circle in Southwest Jacksonville was remodeled after the city issued a permit in July 2022 for a $1.1 million renovation similar to the others.
C.C. Borden Construction Inc. of Jacksonville was the contractor for the project, which was completed as of March 31, 2021, according to a city Certificate of Completion.
Sam’s East also owns that 140,000-square-foot store built in 1992 on 14 acres.
Sam’s Club, a division of Walmart Inc., also is leasing a 1,003,200-square-foot distribution center at 1511 Zoo Parkway in Imeson Park South in North Jacksonville.
