Shrimp Shack Seafood Kitchen is renovating its Beach Boulevard location at southeast Beach Boulevard and San Pablo Road.
The city has been reviewing a permit application for an estimated $750,000 exterior and interior remodel of the 3,307-square-foot project at 14440 Beach Blvd.
The site is at the Intracoastal Plaza anchored by Publix Super Markets Inc.
Work is in progress at the restaurant. The city has asked for a permit and plans resubmission for corrections.
The fast-food structure was built in 2002 as KFC.
Shrimp Shack owners Nader and Fadi Abosini bought it from KFC Corp. for $425,000 in November 2014.
MyShrimpShack.com says the brothers, Nate and Fred, “found their recipe for success in Shrimp Shack.”
The first opened at 646 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park.
“Our family has been in the seafood restaurant business for generations starting with our father’s first restaurant and market in the early nineties,” says the site.
“In 1996, our family opened our first seafood restaurant on the Westside of Jacksonville where we learned all about creating the perfect atmosphere with the right kind of service to enjoy fresh and delicious seafood,” it says.
“When we set off to start our own place, we knew we could offer the same level of service and quality of a sit-down restaurant, but in a faster, more approachable environment. In 2010, we opened the first Shrimp Shack in Orange Park, Florida.”
The site says the Beach Boulevard location is under renovation for a “new look coming 2025.”
“An all-new look is coming to our Jacksonville Beach location,” says the site, adding it will “bring some fresh flavor to our amazing Jax Beach patrons. Please pardon our dust.”
The Orange Park restaurant opens at 11 a.m. daily, closing at 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday.
The menu includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches, dinners, combos, desserts, kids meals, side orders and beverages.
Dinners, starting at $12, include shrimp, scallops, fish and chicken strips.
