The Florida Bar President Roland Sanchez-Medina Jr. will be the guest speaker at the Jacksonville Bar Association member luncheon Nov. 21. The meeting begins at noon at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Jacksonville Riverfront on the Downtown Southbank.
Born in Cuba, Sanchez-Medina’s family lived in the Belgian Congo and South Africa before immigrating to the U.S., where his father established an orthopedic surgery practice in Miami.
After graduating from the University of Miami in 1988, Sanchez-Medina received a JD from Boston College Law School in 1991, then an LLM In taxation from New York University School of Law in 1992, the year he was admitted to The Florida Bar.
He is a founding partner at Sanchez-Medina, Gonzalez, Quesada, Lage, Gomez and Machado LLP in Miami, where he practices corporate and securities law.
When he was sworn in to office in June, Sanchez-Medina said he was only the third president of the Florida Bar born outside the U.S.
In his acceptance speech, Sanchez-Medina said he believes in fostering a culture of fairness within the Bar while upholding the integrity of the profession by holding attorneys in Florida to the highest standard of ethical conduct.
“My commitment to our members is to cultivate an environment that prioritizes support, collaboration and well-being,” he said. “A healthy lawyer that feels valued and supported is a better lawyer, a better family member and a better friend.”
A member of the board of governors for more than 10 years, Sanchez-Medina served on committees, including as chair of the Program Evaluation Committee.
In addition to his affiliation with Cuban American Bar Association and local community organizations including the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Miami-Dade County School Board and the Orange Bowl Committee, Sanchez-Medina is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, Business Law, and International Law sections.
