Baptist Health will open its Baptist Emergency and Imaging Center at Nassau Crossing in Yulee on Nov. 7.
The $38 million, 23,879-square-foot emergency room and imaging center is east of Interstate 95, near Wildlight at 462600 Florida 200. It is about 13 miles west of Baptist Medical Center Nassau.
Construction began in March 2023.
The facility is part of a network of emergency care offered by Baptist Health, including the Wolfson Children’s emergency network, the region’s only full-service children’s hospital and state-designated Level I pediatric trauma center, according to wolfsonchildrens.com.
Parker Brigance, Baptist emergency service line director, estimated that one to four doctors will be on-site at the facility, based on need, and that it will employ about 65 people. There are 16 patient rooms for adult and pediatric patients.
It is capable of transporting patients with severe injuries to intensive care units via helicopter.
“We are going to have 24/7 emergency care available to this community, and, quite frankly, this community is certainly growing,” Brigance said Nov. 4 during a media tour of the center.
According to a Nov. 4 Baptist news release, 63,500 people live within a 15-minute drive of the new center, and that number is expected to grow by 11.4% by 2029. The release said the facility has been designed to allow for future expansion as the community’s need for emergency care increases over time.
The Nassau Crossing ER also features an adjoining imaging center for adults and children.
“We can take care of outpatient CT scans, X-rays, and bone density and mammography screenings,” Brigance said.
He said a second 27,709-square-foot building at the medical campus is expected to open by the end of the year. It will feature primary care and behavioral health services. A Borland Groover medical office and the Nassau Crossing Endoscopy Center will offer advanced colonoscopies and upper endoscopies there.
“No one plans on having an emergency,” said Tammy Daniel, senior vice president and chief nursing officer of Baptist Health, said in the release. “But having timely access to expert care can save lives, prevent complications, and bring peace of mind to patients and families.”
Baptist Health comprises Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Clay, Baptist Medical Center Nassau, Baptist Medical Center South and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
