Mr. Potato Spread, a specialty baked potato restaurant, closed its last brick-and-mortar location at River City Marketplace on Oct. 28, owners announced on the business’s Facebook page.

It will continue its food truck operation.

It closed its location in the Orange Park Mall in July. Its lease was set to expire at the end of the year.

Its first franchise at 7150 Philips Highway closed in January.

“After an incredible 10 years of serving up deliciousness at our River City Marketplace location, we’ve made the tough decision to close this chapter of Mr. Potato Spread,” the Facebook post read.

“With the rising costs of rent, insurance, and goods, alongside the decline in consumer spending, it has become increasingly difficult to operate comfortably in this space.”

Mr. Potato Spread is owned by Lakita and Aaron Spann. They opened the business in 2014.

Lakita Spann was named the JAX Chamber 2024 overall Small Business Leader of the Year in February.
