Waffle House is coming to North Jacksonville near River City Marketplace.

The city issued a permit May 29 for Waffle House Inc. of Decatur, Georgia, to build a 2,000-square-foot restaurant on just more than a half-acre at 14035 Outback Drive at a project cost of $484,586.

Waffle House paid $300,000 for the property Sept. 12, 2023.

A JEA service availability request and the plans show a 34-seat restaurant at Max Leggett Parkway and Outback Drive, at northeast North Main Street and Duval Station Road about 1.3 miles northeast of River City Marketplace.

The site is undeveloped property behind Popeyes and a Circle K gas station and convenience store in North Jacksonville.

The chain has about 20 locations in Northeast Florida.

The permit calls for construction of a 24-hour restaurant.
