May 17 marked the 70th anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education where the court held that in the field of public education, the doctrine of “separate but equal” has no place.

The Federal Court Bar Association will meet at noon May 29 at the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse to commemorate the historic decision and discuss its legacy in Jacksonville.

Senior 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Gerald Bard Tjoflat will speak about the desegregation plan, opinions and orders issued in Jacksonville after the Brown decision.

Senior U.S. District Judge Brian Davis will moderate the discussion, which will include commentary by author, historian and urban planner Ennis Davis.

The FCBA invites all members of the legal community to attend the program, which will include a catered lunch provided by funding from the lawyers and judges of the Middle District of Florida through the Middle District of Florida’s Bench Bar Fund.

Attendees will receive 1.5 hours of Florida CLE credit.
