The state Supreme Court unanimously reelected Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz for a second two-year term.
His new term begins July 1. Muñiz is Florida’s 57th chief justice since statehood.
Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Muñiz to the court Jan. 22, 2019.
Muniz became the 89th justice since statehood was granted in 1845.
The chief justice is the administrative officer of the judicial branch and of the state Supreme Court. Authority and powers of the chief justice include the responsibility to be the primary spokesperson for the judicial branch about policies of statewide import, including the management, operation, legislative agenda and budget priorities of the state’s courts.
