U-Haul International opened U-Haul Moving & Storage at Black Creek in Middleburg on May 3 after acquiring the property May 2 for $10.16 million.
The Clay County storage facility at 2752 Blanding Blvd. sits on two parcels totaling 11.45 acres. It has climate control and outdoor drive-up access.
Inkana Development of Homewood, Alabama, sold the property through On Guard Middleburg LLC.
U-Haul acquired it through Amerco Real Estate Co. of Phoenix.
Inkana developed the property as StoreEase Self Storage, but the facility never opened under that name.
U-Haul Moving & Storage at Black Creek sits behind a Winn-Dixie-anchored shopping center. Access is between Burger King and VyStar Credit Union.
U-Haul started in Portland, Oregon, in 1945 with 30 trucks in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, Washington.
In 1974, the U-Haul self-storage business started. Over time the enclosed units came with climate-controlled options, video surveillance and 24-hour accessibility. The company says it now has more than 66.7 million square feet of self-storage facilities.
On its 75th anniversary in 2020, the U-Haul fleet had grown to about 176,000 trucks, 127,000 trailers and 41,000 towing devices, according to its website.
