After several delays, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority plans to break ground May 10 on Concourse B at Jacksonville International Airport, according to an airport spokesperson.

Mark VanLoh, JAA Chief Executive Officer, Board Chair Michelle Barnett and U.S. Reps. Aaron Bean and John Rutherford are scheduled to speak.

The airport has one main terminal two concourses totaling 20 gates, 10 each for Concourse A and Concourse C.

Concourse B will comprise up to three levels with a total of about 170,000 square feet of space. It will add six passenger gates, concession space, gate seating areas, restrooms and a connecting corridor with moving sidewalks.

The project cost is estimated at $300 million.

An environmental review and permitting status is in process and scheduled for completion June 28, according to the federal infrastructure projects website.

Concourse B was initially planned for construction in 2023. It was later rescheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The project has been in the works for years, stalled by the Great Recession and the coronavirus pandemic.
