Raven Transport Holding Inc., a trucking unit of Florida East Coast Railway, sent a notice to city and state officials April 30 saying it is shutting its over-the-road fleet, putting 83 people out of work.

The notice sent under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act said the jobs will be permanently ended within a 14-day period beginning June 30.

The layoffs affect 57 drivers and several other job functions.

“All Raven employees including drivers and staff who work on the road fleet or dedicated fleet will be separated,” the company said in a letter sent to Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan and to Yolanda Triplet, State Trade and Rapid Response Coordinator.

The letter did not say why the trucking company is shutting down operations.

The workers are assigned to a South Jacksonville facility at 7150 Philips Highway, the site of a Florida East Coast rail yard.

Jacksonville-based Florida East Coat Railway operates a 351-mile rail line from Jacksonville to Miami.

Raven Transport is the company’s regional truck carrier, providing line-haul, heavy haul and tanker transportation services, according to the railroad’s website.

Florida East Coast is owned by Grupo México Transportes, a transportation subsidiary of Mexico City-based Grupo Mexico, which acquired the company in 2017.
