The Orange Park Hooters restaurant at 1740 Wells Road closed June 24.
A recorded phone message confirmed that the location is permanently closed.
The restaurant chain known for chicken wings and waitresses in orange shorts and low-cut T-shirts closed about 40 restaurants around the country, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.
The Hooters corporate office released a statement: “Like many restaurants under pressure from current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a select number of underperforming stores. Ensuring the well-being of our staff is our priority in these rare instances. With new Hooters restaurants opening domestically and internationally, new Hooters frozen products launching at grocery stores, and the Hooters footprint expanding into new markets with both company and franchise locations, this brand of 41 years remains highly resilient and relevant. We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go and at our restaurants here in the U.S. and around the globe.”
The remaining area Hooters are at 4521 Southside Blvd. and 8938 San Jose Blvd.
At one time there were at least six Hooters in the Jacksonville area, including in Arlington, Jacksonville Beach and The Jacksonville Landing. The Landing store closed when the Downtown riverfront mall shut down in 2019. Hooters was one of the Landing’s original restaurants.
Nation’s Restaurant News cited research from Technomic Ignite that showed Hooters had 293 restaurants at the end of 2023. In 2018, it had 333 locations.
The Orange Park Hooters building is owned by ARBII LLC of Cape Coral, Clay County property records show.
