Hakimian Holdings Inc. has signed Planet Fitness as the anchor tenant at the Shoppes of San Jose at 2777 University Blvd. W. near the Lakewood area of South Jacksonville.
Jacksonville-based Hakimian said the fitness center franchisee will lease the 18,600-square-foot anchor space and anticipates a build-out topping $2.5 million.
Blake Hakimian, senior vice president of leasing, said the lease takes the shopping center to full occupancy. Other tenants include UF Health, Pinch A Penny and Casa Bonita Mexican Grill.
It replaces Daily Dealz, a discount liquidation retail store.
Hakimian said Planet Fitness plans to open just before the end of the year.
He said Franklin Street represented Planet Fitness in the lease negotiation.
The Shoppes of San Jose was built in 1972 and remodeled in 2016. The shopping center comprises 56,479 square feet of space.
The center is near a Publix Super Markets-anchored center at northwest University Boulevard and St. Augustine Road and other retail and restaurant developments.
“In our view, this is a continuation of the exceptional growth in the University/San Jose Blvd. corridor from the transformation of our shopping center, to the upgrades made to the LA Fitness-anchored center, to the new Chick-fil-A and Chipotle that have come to the area,” Hakimian said in an emailed statement.
“We anticipate nothing but upward momentum from here and we feel honored to participate in this broadscale improvement to the community.”
