Birch Island Veterinary Center is expanding its dog-boarding capacity by expanding into a building next to its existing property in South Jacksonville.
The city issued a permit May 31 for KBT Contracting Corp. to build-out 8,330 square feet of kennel and support space at 11745 Palm Bay Parkway at a project cost of $962,203.
Business Manager Michael Harrison said June 3 the additional boarding is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025.
“This is an expansion of our dog boarding capacity, which is consistently full during the summer and holidays,” Harrison said.
“It is a new building separate from our existing facility so it does have a different address, but it is immediately adjacent to our existing building so customers will still come to the same location.”
Doherty Sommers Architects Engineers Inc. of Jacksonville is the project architect.
The new building was developed after the city issued a permit in May 2023 for the shell building at a project cost of $2.83 million.
Duval County Property Appraiser records show that both properties are owned by Frapag Powers Bay LLC of Ponte Vedra Beach.
Birch Island operates in a 12,427-square-foot building at 14485 Philips Highway.
BirchIslandVet.com says Birch Island Veterinary Center opened in 2018. It is led by its lead doctor, Deanna Greer, who has been in Jacksonville for more than 15 years and a veterinarian for more than 20 years.
“Our practice will strive to be the home away from home for your dogs, cats, and small animal family members,” it says.
The clinic offers medical, surgical and dental care along with boarding, day care, grooming and more.
