Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee Co. is renovating its San Marco Square shop now that the city issued a permit for the project.

Elfrink Custom Construction Inc. of Oviedo is the contractor for the $500,000 project to remodel the shop at 1980 San Marco Blvd. at a cost of $500,000.

Miami-based Gensler is the architect for the project, which includes interior partitions, finishes, furniture and special equipment; new millwork, finishes and equipment at the coffee and cafe bar areas; new restroom work and exterior patio furniture.

Plans show the 1,550-square-foot space comprises 1,310 square feet of inside space and a 240-square-foot patio.

The shop is next to the Voodoo Brewing Co. bar and restaurant that recently opened.

Jacksonville-based Sleiman Enterprises is the landlord.

Restaurantbusiness.com reported in 2022 that Starbucks planned to add new equipment to its stores, along with additional investments in the following two years to improve throughput.

It said Starbucks would add equipment to speed up brewing to cut back on employee time.

Starbucks also was planning to build another 2,000 U.S. locations by 2025, unit growth that will increase the number of domestic coffee shops by 13%.
