The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved two motions July 16 on a recommended $1.23 billion fiscal year 2025 budget.
The board passed a motion approving proposed flat millage rates and another authorizing completion of the budget with those rates.
A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for 5:01 p.m. Sept. 3 in the St. Johns County Auditorium at 500 San Sebastian View in St. Augustine.
The budget includes the general fund for essential services, capital improvements for major projects and other designated funds.
County Administrator Joy Andrews presented the budget, highlighting priorities including infrastructure, growth management and conservation.
The proposed millage rates remain unchanged from last year. Revenue from taxable value growth will help fund new expenses and programs.
The 13.2% increase in taxable values yields $40.8 million in additional property taxes.
Budget Director Jesse Dunn said Florida’s Save Our Homes provision protects most homestead properties from the full increase. At flat millage rates, homestead property taxes will rise about 3%.
Non-homestead property increases are capped at 10%.
Truth in Millage notices will be mailed to property owners. These will include proposed millage rates, estimated taxes and information on the first public hearing.
The fiscal year 2025 budget, once adopted, begins Oct. 1, 2024.
