Plans for more parking at Jacksonville International Airport are taking off.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority and architect and engineer RS&H submitted civil engineering plans to the city July 3 for a third parking garage near the terminal at Jacksonville International Airport.

The 151,000-square-foot garage will be at the airport at 2400 Yankee Clipper Drive.

According to the application, the proposed six-story structure will connect to the existing daily garage on the east side, adding about 2,400 public parking spaces. The project includes roadwork to manage traffic flow and associated site work and utilities.

The plans cover site work. A building permit application will be submitted later, according to the application.

BV & Associates of Jacksonville is the surveyor.

JIA spokesman Greg Willis said the design of the garage is 60% complete. He said construction is expected to start by the end of the year and it will open in June 2026.

It is a companion project to JIA’s new Concourse B, which will add six gates when it opens in December 2026.

Willis said preparation work on the $344 million concourse project has started and construction will begin in August.

A road is being developed to allow construction vehicles better access to the Concourse B site without potentially damaging airport property or aircraft, Willis said.

The food court will close Aug. 6 to make way for the new concourse construction. An expanded Chili’s is expected to open Aug. 21 to offset the reduction in dining options.
