Fincantieri Marine Repair, which operates a shipyard and repair facility Downtown at Commodores Point, is one of nine companies awarded contracts for repair, maintenance and modernization of U.S. Navy nonnuclear surface ships homeported or visiting the Northwest United States.
The total value of the combined award contract is $943 million, Fincantieri said Jan. 30 in a news release.
The scope of work is for continuous maintenance, emergent maintenanc, and Chief of Naval Operations availabilities, which are short-term or less than 10 months in duration.
The Navy plans to homeport the first Constellation-class frigates in Everett, Washington. This contract gives Fincantieri the ability to compete for repair and maintenance opportunities in the Northwest, in addition to its work on the East Coast, the release said.
Fincantieri Marine Repair established a presence in Jacksonville in 2022 to perform maintenance and repairs for vessels stationed nearby in Mayport.
The Commodores Point shipyard facility is on the north bank of the St. Johns River between the Mathews and Hart bridges.
Fincantieri, which has taken over the site previously leased by North Florida Shipyards, is making a $30 million improvement to marine infrastructure, including work to accommodate a 500-foot dry dock.
Italy-based Fincantieri Group, an international shipbuilder, operates in the United States through its subsidiary Fincantieri Marine Systems North America.
Fincantieri Marine Repair LLC is a part of that.
The company serves commercial and government customers in the U.S., including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command in Virginia, Florida, Japan and Bahrain.
