Zaxby’s is joining the to-go-only movement in Jacksonville with a restaurant planned in the Dinsmore area of Northwest Jacksonville.
The city is reviewing plans for a proposed double-drive-thru and walk-up Zaxby’s at 9031 New Kings Road at an estimated job cost of almost $2.1 million.
The vacant site is at northeast New Kings Road and Interstate 295, between Tractor Supply Co. and Waffle House.
Plans show a 1,620-square-foot modular building.
Hat Construction and Development Inc. of Glennville, Georgia, is the contractor for the Frey-Moss Structures building.
Along with coffee kiosks, restaurant chains adding drive-thru-only sites in Northeast Florida include Chick-fil-A, Dunkin’ and Starbucks.
The site is owned and will be operated by New Berlin JASZ LLC, led by Ronald Gosselin.
Zaxby’s, based in Athens, Georgia, sells chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Founded in 1990, Zaxby’s has grown to more than 900 locations in 17 states.
It has been opening to-go-only restaurants the past year.
In March 2023, Zaxby’s remodeled its restaurant in Clemson, South Carolina, as a to-go-only location with drive-thru and takeout only.
The 2,084 square-foot restaurant was Zaxby’s newest prototype design for a to-go-only restaurant.
The building’s footprint is about two-thirds the size of a traditional Zaxby’s location. It includes a walk-up window for customers to place to-go orders.
There is expedited drive-thru service with a new, covered double-drive-thru layout for faster pay and pickup. The location does not offer indoor seating.
Customers also may order ahead online via zaxbys.com as well as through the Zaxby’s app available for download on Google Play and the App Store. Customers also can order delivery directly through the new app.
The new restaurant has 40 jobs.
In June 2023, Zaxby’s opened its first franchise-owned, to-go-only restaurant in Hoover, Alabama.
The 2,000-square-foot unit is owned and operated by Chicken Scratch Holdings Inc. and hired 50 employees.
The location was Zaxby’s newest prototype design for a to-go-only restaurant.
In September, Zaxby’s introduced the to-go-only concept in Georgia, in Griffin.
In December, Zaxby’s said it opened its newest to-go-only restaurant design in East Memphis with its to-go-only concept. The 2,400-square-foot restaurant has a double-drive-thru layout, new digital menu boards, a payment window, as well as a drive-thru delivery door for faster pay and pickup. It includes a walk-up window.
In Jacksonville, Zaxby’s opened its newest dine-in and drive-thru Jacksonville location in October 2023 at 3175 New Berlin Road.
The 2,904-square-foot restaurant seats up to 56 guests. It is owned and operated by New Berlin JASZ and has 46 positions.
It also features a double-drive-thru layout with digital menu boards, with a streamlined payment and pickup process streamlined for guests seeking quicker service.
The news release said the location is the 13th Zaxby’s in the Jacksonville area for New Berlin JASZ Inc., owned by licensee Ron Gosselin.
