City closed Jan. 9 because of weather threat

Duval County Courthouse, schools and Clerk of Courts also will be shut down.

The city of Jacksonville announced it will be closed Jan. 9 because of the threat of severe weather.

It announced Jan. 8 that all city offices, parks and recreation facilities will be shut.

The Jan. 9 City Council meeting will be postponed until 5 p.m. Jan. 10.

The Duval County Courthouse and the Duval County Clerk of Courts also will be closed.

In addition, all Duval County Public Schools and facilities will be closed and all after-school activities canceled.

The University of North Florida and Jacksonville University are canceling all classes.

The National Weather Service forecast includes high winds and heavy rains with the potential for hail, localized flooding and isolated tornadoes in the region.
