Plans continue moving forward for the Chipotle Mexican Grill under construction in St. Johns County’s planned Beachwalk community.

City utility JEA is reviewing a service availability determination request for the fast-casual restaurant chain.

Contractor Duffey Southeast Inc. of Cedartown, Georgia, submitted the application Dec. 27.

JEA service request reviews typically take 10 business days, according to language on the application.

The county issued a permit Oct. 21 for Duffey Construction to build-out the restaurant at 385 Beachwalk Shore Drive in Saint Johns at a project cost of $1.2 million.

The free-standing restaurant is part of a strip of retail buildings along Beachwalk Shore Drive facing County Road 210.

According to site plans, the 2,500-square-foot building will have a drive-thru and parking spaces. Fort Lauderdale-based PEBB Enterprises, through Beachwalk Retail Center IL LLC, is the landowner.

The site is about 2 miles east of Interstate 95 off County Road 210. It is planned between Kilwins Chocolate Fudge and Ice Cream shop and Island Fin Poké Co north of the Publix-anchored Shoppes at Beachwalk.

Chipotle serves burritos, tacos and “lifestyle bowls” that cater to vegan, vegetarian, keto and other dietary options.

Data company Scrapehero.com reports 3,570 Chipotle locations operated in 49 states and 611 cities as of Nov. 11.
