St. Johns County issued a permit Dec. 20 for Publix Super Markets Inc. to build a 48,387-square-foot grocery store in Elevation Pointe in St. Augustine at a project cost of $3.83 million.
Elevation Pointe is a mixed-use development along Florida 16 that includes retail, apartments and town homes.
The county also issued a permit for an attached 2,100-square-foot liquor store at a cost of $170,000.
The stores are planned at 2785 and 2885 Florida 16, west of the St. Augustine Premium Outlets.
HGR Construction Inc. of Altamonte Springs is the contractor. Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. of Jacksonville is the civil engineer. Hollywood-based Cornerstone Residential Management LLC through Cornerstone Collard Augustine owns the land.
Site plans show 253 parking spaces and a pharmacy.
Other tenants planned at Elevation Pointe include Chase Bank, Circle K and Dutch Bros Coffee.
Publix operates 1,391 stores including 874 in Florida and 19 in St. Johns County. It has more than 350 liquor store locations.
According to Corporate.Publix.com, George W. Jenkins founded Publix in 1930. It is the largest employee-owned company in the United States and one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the country with revenue reaching $54.5 billion in 2022.
