The city issued permits Dec. 5 and Dec. 10 for construction of a Wawa gas station and convenience store on a 2.08-acre outparcel in the Publix Super Markets Inc.-anchored shopping center at northwest Normandy Boulevard and Chaffee Road South.
Triton Construction Group of Tampa is the contractor for the $1.075 million project for the 6,119-square-foot convenience store, a canopy covering eight pumps and 16 fueling positions, and a dumpster enclosure.
The West Jacksonville property at 11381 Normandy Blvd. is in The Plaza at Normandy, a shopping center on 19.4 acres.
Through WPG-Normandy LLC, Tampa-based Wagner Property Group bought the land for $4.9 million in February 2022.
The Plaza at Normandy is near Cecil Commerce Center and the First Coast Expressway.
The 58,691-square-foot retail project comprises a 46,791-square-foot Publix grocery store; an adjacent 2,100-square-foot Publix Liquors store; and 9,800 square feet of retail shops next door.
There is one remaining outparcel of 1.46 acres.
Pennsylvania-based Wawa has at least 23 stores open in Northeast Florida with more in development.
It opened its first Jacksonville locations in Jacksonville in December 2017. At the time, the company said it wanted up to 40 stores in Northeast Florida.
