A St. Johns County rezoning request could pave the way for a RaceTrac gas station and convenience store in Hastings.

As the project representative, the Jacksonville-based Rogers Tower law firm made the request Dec. 3. on behalf of landowner Palm Coast-based Extreme FW Investments LLC. 

The rezoning would change the site from Open Rural, Commercial Intensive and Highway and Tourist to Planned Unit Development.

The Atlanta-based company plans to develop the station at 10110 U.S. 1 S., less than a quarter-mile south of Florida 204 and southwest of Interstate 95.

Connelly & Wicker Inc., of Jacksonville, is the civil engineer. 

Site plans show eight fueling stations with 16 pumps for cars and eight fueling stations for tractor-trailers. There is an 8,100-square-foot convenience store.

Food service includes breakfast items, pizza, sandwiches, subs, ice cream and frozen yogurt.

Future development calls for a 5,000-square-foot fireworks store.

RaceTrac Inc. says on its website it is the 22nd-largest privately held company in the U.S. and has operated since 1934. The company has nearly 800 retail locations under the RaceTrac and RaceWay brands in 12 Southeastern states offering food, beverages and fuel.

The company employs more than 10,200 at RaceTrac, RaceWay and affiliated companies Metroplex Energy and Energy Dispatch.

Metroplex Energy supplies fuel to RaceTrac locations and other retailers and wholesalers in 15 southeastern states.

Energy Dispatch employs more than 250 drivers and operates 98 tractor-trailers in six states delivering more than 1.2 billion gallons of fuel annually.
