Owner Jordyn Shepherd announced Dec. 2 on social media that Hamburger Mary’s will not open in December as she had planned.

In an interview with the Daily Record published Dec. 2, Shepherd said she hoped for a soft opening in December that would last several weeks.

That report has been updated to reflect the change in plans.

Shepherd’s post read in part: “We only get one chance to rebrand, refresh and restart and an opening in December would mean rushing things. I’m certain you guys would prefer our staff being fully trained, our food be of quality and consistency and our shows and themed nights be thought out and executed to their fullest potential!!”

The restaurant will be at 947 Edgewood Ave. S. in Murray Hill. It takes over the former El Jefe location that closed in April.

The original Jacksonville Hamburger Mary’s at 3333 Beach Blvd., was destroyed by fire in October 2023.

Hamburger Mary’s is a national chain that was started in San Francisco in 1972. It serves oversized hamburgers and features drag shows.
